BiH asks Serbia to extradite organised crime suspect Darko Elez

Upon a request by BiH’s Prosecutor’s Office, Serbian law enforcement arrested on Tuesday Darko Elez, who is charged in Bosnia with involvement in major organised crime operations, murders and other crimes.

“The Prosecutor from the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH sent a request to the judicial institutions of the Republic of Serbia for the extradition of Darko Elez to the judiciary of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” a statement by the Prosecutor’s Office said.

It said that Elez is to face a trial based on an indictment, charging him with “organized crime in connection with several serious crimes, including murder, attempted murder, robbery of money transport robbery and other crimes committed between 2005 and 2009.”

He is also wanted in relation to an ongoing investigation conducted by the BiH Prosecutor’s Office and the Interior Ministry of Bosnia’s semi-autonomous Republika Srpska (RS) entity into “serious crimes committed in the area of ​​Istocno Sarajevo (East Sarajevo) and BiH, including two murders committed by mafia liquidation methods in 2018 and 2019, the planning of and attempted murders in the area of Istocno Sarajevo and Bijeljina, extortion, intimidation and other crimes.”

Serbia’s Interior Minister, Aleksandar Vulin, said that “one of the most notorious criminals” whose victims are citizens of Serbia and Republika Srpska was arrested.
