Some 7,000 foreign nationals including dozens of Bosnians are trapped in the south of Gaza Strip near the Rafah border crossing, awaiting evacuation and trying to maintain contact with their embassies. Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Egypt Sabit Subasic told N1 that situation is uncertain and the communication with the Bosnian nationals across the border is getting less and less frequent due to the changing circumstances.
“There are persons who are informing us about the situation from time to time, but they are experiencing it in the worst possible way. They're begging for help, but this is how it is,” the ambassador said.
Although the technical preparations are underway, the evacuation is still uncertain and depending on the developments in the upcoming period, he added.
Subasic hopes that the Bosnian nationals are not exposed to direct threats as they are situated in the south of Gaza Strip.
“I believe there have not been any losses. So far no loss of a foreign national has been reported in that area,” he noted.
The Embassy in Cairo is maintaining the communication with the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Sarajevo, the colleagues in Tel Aviv, the International Organisation for Migrations that showed readiness to provide assistance with the evacuation, said the ambassador.
