The Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina requested international assistance through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism after extreme floods and landslides devastated several municipalities in the country.
“BiH has just activated the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (EUCPM). Response teams are arriving on site”, the new Head of the EU Delegation in BiH posted on X.
He added that BiH is a full member of EUCPM since September of 2022 and that teams from the country participated in rescue efforts in Slovenia and Turkey.
The request was made after the Government of BiH’s Federation (FBiH) entity decided that, due to the scale of the floods, international assistance is necessary to fix the damage and it provided a list of the most essential equipment and resources.
The Ministry of Security of BiH is in constant contact with representatives of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism in Brussels, preparing to ensure that the aid sent to BiH reaches the residents and municipalities most in need as quickly and efficiently as possible.
