BiH Grand Mufti's Eid sermon: Faith requires that we focus on what unites us

Ramadan has strengthened us spiritually, infused us with a new life force, strengthened our faith and awakened hope. Faith offers dialogue, a discussion about a common word, a common good. Dialogue is the path to an agreement, while strife and mistrust to destruction, said, among other things, the BiH Islamic Community's Grand Mufti Hussein Kavazovic in a sermon during the Eid prayer, which started one of the biggest Muslim holiday, Eid al-Fitr, on Thursday.

In the presence of a large number of faithful, Eid prayer was offered in mosques throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina on Thursday evening. A central Eid celebration was held in the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque in Sarajevo, and the program was performed by famous imams.

The Eid prayer was offered at 6.02 am.

Quoting a passage from the Qur'an, saying: “Be a servant to your Lord, until your assurance comes to you,” Kavazovic said that “only God's sail and His rope, with which we catch God's wind can keep us on the surface of the sea so that we don't sink and lose our direction in the wilderness of the world.”

He further stated that every faithful should learn how to face life’s trials and trials in faith and hope, relying on God at all times.

“Faith requires that we focus on what unites us in belief and action, on what unites our hearts, not on what separates them. When there are quarrels, fights, and hatred, it is difficult to restrain and stop them. If we are believers, we should by no means underestimate the evil of hatred that cunningly nests in the human soul. In the beginning, hatred allows us to feel powerful, then it makes us its collaborators, and finally, it dominates the soul itself. That is why it is necessary for Muslims not to ignore God's warning, which reads: “Cooperate in good and piety and do not cooperate in sin and mutual enmity,” Kavazovic said.

The Grand Mufti pointed out that hatred “cannot enrich our community, nor increase its reputation, but it can destroy the bridges between our people and any hope for a common future.”

“Muslims in particular, but also people in general, should be one body, one soul, a heart that strives for the same goal, peace among peoples and nations. Such are those who help each other, those who discuss different issues, with mutual respect,” he added.

Grand Mufti Kavazovic concluded his sermon by saying: “to all of you, brothers and sisters in the homeland and the diaspora, in Sandzak, Montenegro, Croatia and Slovenia, Kosovo and North Macedonia, I wish you happy and prosperous Eid days, to spend them in peace, health and pleasure with your family, relatives, and neighbours. Bajram Sherif Mubarek Olsun!”

Eid al-Fitr is one of the two most important Islamic holidays that mark the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. Muslims rejoice on this Eid because they have fasted the month of Ramadan, renewed their knowledge and confirmed their obedience to God Almighty. Ramadan is followed by the month of Shawwal, the first three days of which are Eid al-Fitr.
