Nebojsa Vukanovic, leader of the List for Justice and Order, discussed the impact of American sanctions and the upcoming local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina in an interview with N1. Vukanovic blamed the people for the political chaos, stating, "The people have been voting for corrupt politicians for years."
Vukanovic emphasized that it is only a matter of time before the system in Republika Srpska collapses, noting delays in salary payments and blocked services. He stated, “I would like it if there were no salaries until New Year so that people would wise up.”
The US recently sanctioned companies linked to the Dodik family, which have earned over half a billion marks through public institution tenders. This raises questions about how these sanctions will impact Dodik's already precarious situation. “I don't worry much for Dodik because the fact that three firms have ‘ground’ more than 500 million KM in a few years speaks volumes,” Vukanovic said. He criticized the regime for costing the people several billion KM.
Despite the sanctions and investigative reports by Detektor.ba, the BiH Prosecutor's Office has not taken any action. Vukanovic highlighted the need for free institutions and criticized the nation's reliance on American sanctions to reveal corruption links. “In this country, everything is enslaved—from the judiciary and auditors to other institutions and most of the people who dare not offer any resistance.”
Vukanovic also expressed his disappointment with the political situation in the Federation of BiH and his hope to support the dissolution of the BiH Council of Ministers. He criticized the current coalition for achieving nothing substantial and stated, “We want to be a new political elite that will bring something new, not just be political decor.”
Regarding the upcoming local elections, Vukanovic spoke about the opposition's chances in Banja Luka and criticized Draško Stanivukovic for failing to meet expectations. “Stanivukovic is the most responsible for this difficult political situation in RS,” he said. He also mentioned Jelena Trivic as having the best chance among the opposition candidates.
As the local elections approach, Vukanovic warned of the increasing dissatisfaction due to delayed salaries and blocked services, exacerbated by American sanctions. “The system might collapse if people feel the dissatisfaction, even if one salary is delayed,” he concluded, expressing a harsh wish, “As far as I’m concerned, I hope there are no salaries until New Year so that people might come to their senses.”
