War victims in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday expressed partial satisfaction with a 12-year prison term given to former Serbian intelligence officers - Jovica Stanisic and Franko Simatovic - by the Trial Chamber of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (MICT). Kada Hotić of the Mothers of Srebrenica association, who attended today's hearing when the ruling was handed down by this court in The Hague, said that the judgement was the confirmation of the liability of Serbia.

“I can say that I am partly satisfied with the verdict. (For me) they are also guilty of war crimes in Zvornik, Bijeljina, Doboj,” Hotic said after the MICT Trial Chamber found the two guilty only of war crimes in the northern Bosnian town of Bosanski Šamac.

It is better that they are found guilty than not guilty as it was the case in their first trial, she said.

A representative of the association of former inmates of the Serb-run camp in Sanski Most, Zikret Zukic, said that he could be only partly satisfied with the ruling.

However, he underlined his disappointment with the failure of guilty verdicts to change the opinions of people about the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“It hurts me to see that 30 years since those crimes nothing has changed. Unfortunately, the war is not over, but it has been only halted,” he said.
