The Mayor of Bijeljina, Ljubisa Petrovic, was released from custody on Saturday and stated that he will continue his fight and will not give up on his desire to "liberate" BiH's Republika Srpska (RS) entity. According to prosecutors, Petrovic is suspected of abuse of office. Pročitaj više

Allegedly, after following the prescribed procedure for awarding scholarships for the academic years 2022/2023 and 2023/2024, he acted contrary to the Regulations and the Decision on Scholarship Allocation for Pupils and Students by issuing Decisions on granting “extraordinary scholarships” totaling more than half a million BAM, thereby creating additional obligations for the budget of the City of Bijeljina.

When questioned by the Prosecutor's Office about the scholarship funds, Petrovic stated that public money should go to students, according to RTVBN.

“They want the money in their own pockets; that’s why all of this has happened,” Petrovic said.

Citizens gathered in front of the Police Administration in Bijeljina on Saturday over the Petrovic's detention and then marched to the prosecutor's office in Bijeljina, where they stayed for several hours, waiting for him to be released.
