Biljana Simeunovic resigned from the position of Vice-President of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC) "due to obstructions by the president and the Secretariat of the Council, and the lack of communication that prevented her from performing the duties stipulated by the HJPC Law."
The HJPC President Halil Lagumdzija said at the opening of the first day of the Council's session that he had received a written submission on the resignation of the Vice-President, which came into force upon submission to the Secretariat. He requested that the submission containing a brief explanation of her decision be submitted to the other members of the Council so that they would be informed, BIRN BiH reported.
“I will not take responsibility for something that I cannot do, I cannot supervise the Secretariat because the president does not approve it,” Simeunovic said briefly in her explanation to the members of the Council.
She added that she spends her days in the office without being able to perform the set tasks and does not want to end the last years of her judicial career in such a way.
“I don't want to be associated with that kind of politics, I have worked conscientiously, and I have a reputation. I want to get out of it. I can use the time as a prosecutor, not like this,” she said.
Lagumdzija said that he regrets the situation and her decision and that earlier he tried to ask if he was interfering in the work of the council bodies, to which he was told that he should interfere even more.
Simunovic remains in that institution as a member of the HJPC.
