In response to recent threats of terrorist attacks on Bosnian Armed Forces (OS BiH) military sites, the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina (MoD BiH) has ordered an increase in security readiness to mitigate the risk of potential security threats, not only to military installations but also to citizens of BiH.

The Ministry of Defense, in line with its legal responsibilities, has implemented a series of measures aimed at protecting personnel, property, and military-technical assets of the Armed Forces of BiH.

“The public has already been informed about the threats and the risk of terrorist attacks, and the Ministry fully understands the seriousness of these threats. Particular attention is being paid to the potential use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) in such attacks. Flying drones over military facilities and OS BiH zones without prior approval from the Ministry of Defense is strictly prohibited by law. Drone flights over military locations, as well as flights at a horizontal distance of less than 500 meters, are regulated by relevant laws and regulations, and any unauthorized flight constitutes a breach of security protocols,” the Ministry said in a statement.

Recently, there has been an increase in drone activity over OS BiH military sites, which has further elevated security risks. The Ministry of Defense is in constant contact with law enforcement agencies and international partners, including EUFOR and the NATO Sarajevo headquarters, who have been informed of the threats and unauthorized drone flights.

“In order to protect military facilities, various security measures and procedures are being applied, including security protocols for responding to unauthorized incursions, surveillance, and recording of military locations,” the statement added.

The Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of BiH are taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of their personnel and military locations, including arms and ammunition storage sites. These measures are intended to protect not only OS BiH personnel but also the broader safety of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Ministry takes any threat seriously, including the possibility of a terrorist attack involving drones, and will continue to take all necessary actions to fully safeguard military infrastructure and the safety of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
