The Chair of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zeljka Cvijanovic, the member of the Presidency Denis Becirovic, and the Chair of the Council of Ministers, Borjana Kristo, attended the final farewell ceremony for Pope Francis in Vatican City on Saturday. The Pope passed away on April 21st.

"We will remember Pope Francis as a man and leader who devotedly advocated for peace, dialogue, and understanding among different peoples and religions. There remains hope that the world will become a better and more peaceful place, based on the wishes and prayers of all people of goodwill, just as Pope Francis was," Cvijanovic wrote on Instagram.

"Today, I am in the Vatican, along with 130 state delegations from around the world, attending the funeral of the head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis. Pope Francis will be missed by all people of goodwill who fight for peace, freedom, and human dignity," said Becirovic.

Over 400,000 people gathered in the Vatican and along the streets of Rome to pay their final respects to Pope Francis, according to the Italian Ministry of Internal Affairs. This number significantly exceeds the Vatican's estimate of nearly 250,000 attendees for the final farewell of the Catholic Church's leader.

Pope Francis, who died at the age of 89, was buried in Rome on Saturday. Following a religious ceremony in the Vatican attended by hundreds of thousands of faithful, the coffin with Pope Francis' body was taken to the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, where the burial rite was performed behind closed doors.

Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on December 17, 1936, in Buenos Aires, Pope Francis was the son of Italian immigrants. He studied in Argentina and Germany and was ordained as a Jesuit priest in 1969. He became the head of the Catholic Church in 2013, marking the first pope from Latin America. Throughout his more than ten years of pontificate, he remained a figure of both admiration and controversy—advocating for the reform of Vatican bureaucracy, fighting against corruption, and promoting social justice, while facing resistance from conservative circles within the Church.

The final months of his life were marked by a battle with bronchitis and pneumonia.
