Bosnia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) warned on Sunday that the financial resources for the 2022 General Elections must be secured by May 19.
The institution noted that, on May 4, 2022, it passed the decision on calling and holding the General Elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2022. The elections will take place on Sunday, October 2 this year.
“According to the provisions of Article 1.2a of the Election Law of BiH, the competent institutions must provide funds for the implementation of elections within 15 days from the day of calling the elections, or in this case by May 19. The Central Election Commission of BiH estimated that the General Elections in 2022 will cost around 12,528,000.00 Bosnian Marks,” the CEC said.
The institution said it will act according to the provisions of the Election Law of BiH and strictly adhere to all legal provisions and deadlines that are prescribed.
It also stressed that, according to the Election Law, the mandate of members of representative bodies elected in regular elections lasts four years and runs from the day the election results are published in the Official Gazette of BiH. The results of the 2018 General Elections were published in the Official Gazette of BiH No. 78/18 of November 6, 2018, it noted.
In accordance with the above, the mandate of the members of the representative bodies elected in the 2018 General Elections lasts until November 2022.
“We call on decision-makers in Bosnia and Herzegovina to fulfil their legal obligation and provide financial resources for the implementation of the 2022 General Elections within the legal deadline,” the CEC said.
