The House of Representatives of Bosnia’s Federation (FBiH) entity Parliament appointed the new government Thursday following the decisions of the High Representative in BiH Christian Schmidt, who unblocked this process after eight years.
The former FBiH government led by Prime Minister Fadil Novalic (Democratic Action Party – SDA) was in the technical mandate for four years after their mandate ended. With 51 votes in favour, one abstention and zero votes against it, the decision was made to confirm the new composition of the FBiH government.
During the session, a protest in front of the FBiH Parliament took place. The organizers were an informal group of citizens ReStart and members and supporters of the SDA.
Following the appointment, the protesters left the area around the Parliament building.
The session was interrupted twice, the first time for half an hour at the request of the SDA caucus, and the second time for 10 minutes at the request of the Democratic Front (DF).
Earlier, the incumbent FBiH Vice President Refik Lendo (SDA) addressed the public and said that this is not a permanent solution but a temporary one, in order to bypass the electoral will of the Bosniaks and to disable SDA from participating in the government.
The new government will be led by the leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Nermin Niksic.
