Dragan Covic, President of Croat Democratic Union (HDZ BiH), stated ahead of Friday’s meeting with representatives of the Troika (People and Justice Party – NiP; Our Party – NS; Social Democratic Party - SDP) coalition that discussions would focus on the current political situation and reaffirming their partnership.
Speaking to Radiotelevizija Herceg-Bosne (RTV HB), Covic highlighted the need to address pressing issues without being distracted by internal debates. He expressed confidence in outlining clear steps regarding the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) entity.
“It is crucial to prevent any delays or challenges to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European path and to ensure the stable functioning of institutions. We must resolve internal socio-economic problems in peace and stability. No one has the right to expose the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to any security challenges,” Covic stated.
He stressed the importance of ensuring equality for all three constituent peoples, with a particular focus on the position of Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Covic also emphasized the need to adopt key laws, appoint a chief negotiator with the EU, and approve the budget to maintain progress on the European path.
When asked about Troika’s intention to determine “whose side HDZ BiH is on,” Covic firmly responded, “Neither Troika nor anyone else has the right to question whose side we are on. We are on our own side—on the side of all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Croat people, and our homeland. Those who like it, like it; those who don’t, can think otherwise.”
He concluded by reiterating that the most critical issues remain the Election Law and constitutional equality for Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
