Chairman of the House of Peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Covic stated that the coalition agreement signed two years ago may soon be reassessed due to ongoing dysfunction at the state level. He emphasized the need to determine whether continuing under the current arrangement makes sense.

Reflecting on past political decisions, Covic acknowledged a significant mistake in forming the current coalition under international pressure. He corrected himself, noting that they were not “forced” but “strongly motivated” to create the HDZ-SNSD-Troika alliance.

“The position we established two years ago is no longer functioning, and its dismantling has already begun. We need to sit down with our partners, review the agreement, and decide whether to proceed with it or take a different path,” Covic said, adding that he opposes any dismissals until a decision is reached. He stressed the importance of Bosnia’s EU path and noted that the international community’s influence over the country is waning.

Addressing relations with the Democratic Action Party (SDA), Covic stated that election results must be respected, acknowledging that SDA was the winner in the last election. However, he insisted that mistakes made under foreign influence should not be repeated. He criticized international interference in Bosnia’s internal affairs, particularly decisions imposed by the High Representative, arguing that such interventions harm the country's sovereignty.

Regarding US Ambassador Michael Murphy’s departure from Bosnia, Covic claimed that he had resisted external pressure, particularly regarding the South Interconnection Law, which he deemed contrary to Bosnia’s interests. He admitted expecting potential sanctions but dismissed them as inconsequential compared to broader geopolitical shifts.

On upcoming political developments, Covic announced meetings with Nermin Niksic, the leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Milorad Dodik of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), and Elmedin Konakovic of People and Justice (NiP) party to discuss the future of governance. He expressed confidence that Bosnia would remain intact and suggested that external actors have limited ability to influence its fate.

Commenting on Serbia’s Statehood Day (Sretenje) celebration in Banja Luka, Covic downplayed its significance, stating that such events have occurred for decades.

However, he warned that upcoming international forums, particularly the security conference in Germany, could have a more significant impact on Bosnia’s political landscape. He concluded by stressing the need for internal stability and peaceful negotiations, reaffirming his commitment to ensuring that Bosnia never experiences war again.
