The Chairwoman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zeljka Cvijanovic, met in Istanbul with the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, where they discussed the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and regional challenges. The meeting was also attended by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

Cvijanovic expressed gratitude to President Erdoğan for his willingness to hear the views of all sides in BiH and for supporting internal dialogue among representatives of the country's constituent peoples.

During the meeting, Cvijanovic informed her interlocutors about the political and constitutional crisis in BiH, emphasizing that the country is facing its biggest challenge since the signing of the Dayton Agreement. According to her, the root cause of the current instability is “illegal foreign intervention in BiH,” with a particular focus on the High Representative Christian Schmidt.

She stressed that the amendment of the Criminal Code, imposed by the High Representative, has led to the “instrumentalization of the judiciary for the political elimination of the legitimately elected President of Republika Srpska.” It should be noted that Milorad Dodik is now under investigation for undermining the constitutional order of BiH.

Despite the complex political situation, Cvijanovic assessed that there are no security threats and that the country’s stability is not in question. She sees the key to resolving the crisis in eliminating the consequences of foreign influence, engaging in dialogue among elected representatives, and strengthening the sovereignty of domestic institutions, according to a statement from the Presidency of BiH.
