The death toll from the devastating floods that struck parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina has climbed to 18, with 16 victims confirmed in the heavily affected area of Jablanica. This information was confirmed by Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNK) police spokesperson Ljudevit Maric, who stated that two more bodies were found in Jablanica, bringing the total there to 16.
Two additional deaths were reported in Fojnica, bringing the total number of flood victims across the country to 18. Alongside Jablanica and Fojnica, other areas such as Kiseljak, Kresevo, and Konjic have been severely impacted, with several homes submerged.
The HNK Government had earlier confirmed 14 deaths in Jablanica and noted a significant number of missing people in the area, as well as in Konjic. Rescue efforts continue as authorities work to locate those still unaccounted for.
In Mostar, doctors are battling to save the life of a pregnant woman who lost her baby due to the floods. Her condition remains critical, while a young boy rescued from the floods is now stable, according to N1 reports.
The floods, triggered by heavy overnight rain, have caused massive damage across Bosnia and Herzegovina. The torrential downpours have resulted in landslides, particularly in Jablanica, burying homes and infrastructure under debris. Entire families are still reporting missing relatives, adding to the crisis.
Due to the extensive damage, road communication in central and southern Bosnia has been severely disrupted. The main Sarajevo-Mostar highway has been completely destroyed in parts, with alternative routes now directing traffic through Bugojno and Foca.
In response to the disaster, the organization Pomozi.ba has launched a humanitarian campaign, offering a donation hotline where citizens can contribute 2 Bosnian marks by calling 17039. Rescue efforts remain ongoing as emergency teams work to clear roads and reach trapped residents.
The floods have caused widespread chaos, with communication lines, infrastructure, and access routes severely affected, making it difficult for rescue teams to navigate the hardest-hit areas. Meanwhile, the authorities continue to assess the full extent of the damage, with a priority on rescuing the missing and stabilizing affected regions.
