Zukan Helez, a candidate for the post of Bosnia's Defence Minister, said if officially offered he will accept the position, stressing that NATO membership would be one of the three main priorities of his work. Pročitaj više

“I think I will be the first minister who will visit all the barracks and each and ever soldier, to see how they live and the conditions they work in. The second priority will be intensifying the cooperation with NATO membership. There is no dilemma here. NATO accession is my key priority. I hope I will take Bosnia and Herzegovina to the NATO during my term,” said Helez, noting that the Social Democratic Party leader Nermin Niksic will make the final decision on his nomination on Monday (today).

He will accept it as a challenge, Helez added.

“NATO alliance is a challenge, as well as the new composition of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina which has the priorities of the European Commission lying ahead of it,” he noted.

He also said that he did not take part in talks on formation of authorities within the coalition that the SDP is part of but he expressed optimism on this matter.

“Niksic told me the atmosphere is good, this is probably achieved with help of the international community and key ambassadors,” said Helez.

According to him, there is no alternative to such cooperation.

“We witnessed blockades. There is no second alternative, the third would be a war, the fourth one does not exist”, he underlined.
