“The British government has been and remains committed to protecting the memory of the Srebrenica genocide, but also to monitor the state of return of refugees and their life in eastern Bosnia. Through conversations with British MPs, I got the impression that they are monitoring all cases of genocide denial, human rights violations and all other problems faced by the new generation of returnees to these areas with great interest,” genocide Memorial Centre General Manager Emir Suljagic said.

“The result of their support is education, skill development, and the realization of important projects such as the preparation of the Genocide Denial Report, the presentation of the exhibition ‘Steps of those who have not (crossed),’ launching of the Leadership Initiative for Srebrenica, which brought together leaders from around the world, and partnerships with international and domestic research institutions, universities and organizations.”

British Ambassador Matt Field stressed the importance of cooperation with the Memorial Centre, as well as the fact that this institution today represents not only a centre of remembrance and research of genocide but also a central point of renewal of civilizational dialogue in BiH.

“I'm glad that such a large and high-ranking delegation of the British Parliament visited Srebrenica. It is crucial that we all continue to learn lessons about what happened here, understand the vital work of the Memorial Centre and build a better future together. The United Kingdom remains fully committed to this important work,” said Ambassador Field.

The delegation is led by MPs Bob Stewart, James Gray and Baroness Julie Smith.

Visitors from the United Kingdom were deeply touched by the visit to the Memorial Centre and the conversation with representatives of the Association of Families of Victims of Genocide in Srebrenica.

On Wednesday they visited the village of Ahmici where 116 Bosniak villagers were brutally murdered by Bosnian Croat forces in April of 1993.

After visiting the Memorial Center, the delegation laid a wreath at the monument to the victims of the Srebrenica genocide.
