The trial of Milorad Dodik, President of the Republika Srpska (RS) entity, and Milos Lukic, former acting director of the Official Gazette of RS, is ongoing at the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the proceedings, Dodik complained about "exceptionally inhumane and poor conditions in the courtroom."
Dodik mentioned that after a surgical procedure he underwent earlier, he was advised not to sit for extended periods. “Now I have another migraine attack, it's too hot, and these are inhumane conditions. I’m sitting here solely out of respect for you,” Dodik told Judge Sena Uzunovic.
He suggested that the court take a longer break to allow everyone to recuperate, noting that he had important meetings scheduled for the evening in Banja Luka with mayors and municipal leaders.
Judge Uzunovic granted a ten-minute recess following Dodik's complaints.
Wednesday marks the final hearing for Dodik and Lukic, who are accused of taking actions to continue legislative procedures despite knowing that High Representative Christian Schmidt had issued decisions preventing the enforcement of certain laws from July 1, 2023.
The prosecution and defence are presenting their closing arguments. The Court can deliver a verdict today or within three days, but no later than February 25.
The Prosecutor's Office of BiH has proposed a sentence closer to the maximum penalty for Dodik, including a 10-year ban on political activities. A similar proposal was made for Lukic, including a ban on holding official duties and political activities for 10 years.
The defence requested an extension of the hearing by four hours, with two hours allocated for the defendants to speak. Judge Uzunovic approved the request, stating that the hearing could continue until midnight if necessary.
