Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik said he would not respect the BiH Constitutional Court's ruling, invalidating the Republika Srpska's Election Law, even though his party will participate in the coming local polls, which are being held in line with the national election law.
“The Election Law of the Republika Srpska (RS) is constitutional, and this legal act will be enforced,” Dodik told Radio Television RS, responding to the ruling handed down by the Bosnia and Herzegovina Constitutional Court on Thursday.
The court ruled that the adoption of the RS Election Law violates the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, aiming to undermine the role of the Central Election Commission of BiH, which is responsible for organizing and conducting elections.
This move came after the high international representative, Christian Schmidt, imposed amendments to Bosnia and Herzegovina's Election Law.
However, Dodik stated that he would only adhere to the entity's Election Law which has not been challenged by the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Srpska, but the state-level court has challenged it.
Despite objections and the refusal to accept the decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH, which the authorities of the Republic of Srpska consider unlawful due to the absence of two Serb judges, the ruling parties from this entity will still participate in the upcoming local elections organized by the state’s Central Election Commission.
These elections are scheduled for October 6, during which new assemblies of city and municipal councils, as well as the leaders of 141 municipalities and cities, will be elected.
