Speaking to reporters after the meeting with Putin, Dodik strongly condemned the appointment of the High Representative of the international community in BiH, Christian Schmidt, saying that this was done by western countries without a UN Security Council decision.

Dodik argued that the fact Schmidt used his Bonn Powers to impose certain decisions represents a destabilising factor in BiH.

He also mentioned the EU’s military mission in BiH, Althea, noting that the UN Security Council will be voting on whether to renew it.

Dodik later told the public broadcaster of Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, RTRS, that the meeting with the Russian President was successful and open and that the two spoke about a number of topics, including Russia’s role as a guarantor of the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement.

He said that Russia remains a very important factor in the UN Security Council and decision making in the world, and that he told Putin about Schmidt’s behaviour in BiH.

The two also discussed infrastructure issues and Dodik said that it was confirmed that a gas pipeline will be built in Republika Srpska, as well as two power plants, one near Prijedor and the other near Banja Luka.

Dodik said Putin invited him to another meeting in September to discuss the projects.
