German politician, Christian Schmidt, is taking over the post of High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the official tasked with overseeing the civilian implementation of the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement, on Sunday.

“What Schmidt is promoting here as his agenda is absolutely not within the competence of the High Representative, which shows that one should only have increased suspicion and non-acceptance of such a character,” Dodik told Belgrade's Vecernje Novosti.
“I see that Christian Schmidt is full of some optimism and trying to impose an agenda that only he thinks he can. What Schmidt announced was not the role of the High Representative in BiH in the past either,” Dodik said.
He argued that the High Representative has nothing to do with the issue of Bosnia’s election law or the decision-making process.
“It's nonsense, not even (former High Representative) Paddy Ashdown got into that, and now Schmidt is coming in after such a long time and wants to get into it,” he said.
“Schmidt has nothing to do with BiH's European path. The European path has always been the property of domestic political forces,” he added.
Dodik argued that High Representatives in BiH “ignore the serious progress that has been made here” and try to make it seem like the situation is always problematic – “because if they say that the situation is good, then there is no point in having them.”
