The European Union Delegation in Bosnia and Herzegovina condemned the attack on Serb returnees in the Bacevici settlement near Mostar, calling for an immediate reaction from the authorities.
“We strongly condemn the attack on Serb returnees in Bacevici. We urge the relevant authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice and do more to prevent hate crimes,” the Delegation wrote on X.
Last week, offensive graffiti – swastikas, the letter “U” (short for Ustasha) and “HVO” (short for Croat Defence Council) – were reported by the residents of the Serb returnee village of Bacevici in the south of Mostar.
Bosnia’s Security Minister Nenad Nesic spoke about this recently and said that “the brutal attack on Serb children in the returnee settlement of Bacevici near Mostar, which took place under the cover of hatred and violence, represents the most brutal attack on the coexistence and security of all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially Serb people who are still facing such atrocities”.
Bosnia’s Human Rights Minister Sevlid Hurtic visited the village on Monday and strongly condemned the recent attacks on children of Bosniak and Serb ethnicity in this and the town of Opina.
“Such attacks are completely unacceptable and must be immediately and thoroughly investigated. Children are the most vulnerable members of our society and their protection must be our priority,” Hurtic said.
