EU parliament prepares resolution on Western Balkans, demands sanctions on Dodik

European Parliament finished a discussion on common foreign and security policy, which is expected to be adopted on Wednesday, and which demands from the Western Balkan countries to align their foreign policies with that of the European Union. Pročitaj više

In the part regarding Bosnia and Herzegovina, the document demands sanctions against “destabilising actors in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including those who jeopardise its sovereignty and territorial integrity, especially Milorad Dodik (President of Serb-majority entity Republika Srpska,” according to Tanjug news agency.

The Parliament also expressed concern in the resolution over the ways in which Bosnia's electoral legislation and the Constitution of the Federation entity were amended by high representative Christian Schmidt on the election night, October 2.

When it comes to Serbia, the EU parliament expressed regret over a continuously low degree of Serbia's alignment with the EU's foreign policy, and suggested that new chapter in the accession talks should be opened only after Serbia strengthen its commitment to reforms in the sectors of democracy and rule of law, and after it shows it has fully aligned its foreign policy with that of the EU.
