In response to an order from the Civil Protection Headquarters of Sarajevo Canton, employees from the Civil Protection Service of Stari Grad Municipality are conducting regular visits to affected residential areas in the streets of Bostarici, Ablakovina, and Ablakovina Cikma. These actions are part of the ongoing evacuation efforts due to the threat of landslides.

Following a field visit to the affected areas on February 3, 2025, it was determined that 26 families, or 85 individuals, have refused the offered accommodation. Additional housing units must be found for five families (10 people). Five other families (16 people) have agreed to evacuate but only in the event of landslide activity. Ten families (35 people) have already been relocated to available housing units arranged by Stari Grad Municipality and Sarajevo Canton, while another ten families (27 people) have been placed in units provided by the Agency for the Management of Seized Property of FBiH in the Bulevar Stup neighbourhood.

In accordance with the Evacuation and Relocation Plan for residents in the event of natural disasters or emergencies, further activities to secure accommodation for the affected population are being carried out. The Civil Protection Service and local community offices in Stari Grad continue to relocate people from the affected area to safe housing units provided by the municipality.

The Stari Grad Civil Protection Headquarters has organized 24-hour surveillance of the at-risk areas, particularly in Curine njive and Bistricki potok, which are prone to landslides. This monitoring aims to provide early warning for the affected population and facilitate possible evacuations.

During the field visits, the Civil Protection HQ noticed cracks forming along the landslide surface in both the Stari Grad and East Stari Grad municipalities. These cracks are widening and changing shape, and the area is experiencing a constant influx of water, which is causing partial flooding of the meadow and resulting in ice formation due to temperature fluctuations. The saturated ground continues to contribute to the landslide process, further threatening the stability of the area.

At the “Knjeginjac” site, the Civil Protection Service observed that no new earth or stone material was being deposited, nor were any construction activities taking place. It was also noted that the East Stari Grad Municipality had previously installed metal posts and protective barriers to prevent the dumping of additional earth and stone materials. No new construction or other materials were found at the “Trebevic Hills” construction site.

In the Bistricki potok area, which straddles both Stari Grad Sarajevo (Bogusevac) and East Stari Grad municipalities, the stream bed remains partially blocked with material from a nearby dump, as well as fallen and previously cut trees. No new debris or earth material was observed, and no actions were noted to remove the previously deposited material.

Efforts to monitor and manage these critical areas continue as local authorities prioritize the safety and relocation of affected residents.
