Fans of Josip Broz Tito gathered on Wednesday at a monument erected for him in Sarajevo to mark 42 years since the death of the former President of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

They laid flowers at his monument within the Sarajevo campus.

“We had peace, stability, education, healthcare, all for free. Salaries paid on time. We have nothing today,” one of them told N1.

“I turned to Tito's philosophy, he wanted us all to be together, while the nationalists don't want that. He once said that socialism rejects the majority and the minority, and that is why I love that regime,” he said.

Those at the gathering sang songs about the late Yugoslav leader.

Among them were also representatives of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), led by party leader Nermin Niksic.

Josip Broz Tito died in 1980 in Ljubljana.
