Wednesday marks 31 years since the attack on the Yugoslav National Army (JNA) column in Sarajevo's Dobrovoljacka Street, on the occasion of which the Green Berets gathered in Sarajevo to pay tribute to their fallen comrades.
Vahid Alic, the head of the Association “Green Berets” of the municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo, told the crowd that they gathered to pay respect to all those who gave the most for Bosnia and Herzegovina and laid their lives in its foundations.
“Unfortunately, our Prosecutor's Office has never started a process against those who killed our citizens, but we come back to the fact that they are trying to equate us as the aggressor. We will not allow this,” Alic said.
He also believes that no one will be held accountable for the kidnapping of the then-President of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Alija Izetbegovic because a lot of time has passed.
“You see, there are not many political actors and their followers here, today. Those for whom we fought and gave them their homeland. Instead of being here today, where the president has been exchanged, they are gone,” Alic added.
He also added that sometime in the future, a statement by the late General Milutin Kukanjec will be posted in Dobrovoljačka.
“He clearly said that six members of the Yugoslav National Army were killed in this part of the street and of course they did not respect the exchange agreement where they were supposed to come out completely unarmed with personal equipment, but they came out armed to the teeth, where they caused the incident shooting at the citizens and defenders who were standing in a row towards Skenderija,” Alic recalled.
