The candidates of Bosnia’s Croat Democratic Union (HDZ BiH), Mario Kordic, and the ‘Coalition for Mostar’, led by the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), Zlatko Guzin, have passed the first round of the mayoral vote in the City Council of Mostar.
Councillors could choose among four candidates to vote for the post – Kordic, Guzin, the candidate of the left-leaning ‘Bh Bloc’ coalition, Irma Baralija, and the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), which is part of the coalition, Arman Zalihic.
However, not all councillors voted – those from the SDP and ‘Prva Mostarska Stranka’ left the session before the vote. Despite this, enough councillors were present to complete the process.
In the first round of voting, Kordic received 14 votes, Guzin 12, Baralija two and Zalihic none. Two ballots were invalid.
