The Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HDZ BiH) called on Monday for the urgent stabilisation of the country’s political situation following moves by the authorities in Republika Srpska (RS) that challenge the jurisdiction of state institutions in BiH's Serb entity.
After a presidency meeting, the leading Croatian party in BiH said it is of “crucial importance to ensure the functioning of all institutions and make strong reform strides towards EU integration in peace and stability.”
The HDZ BiH and the pro-Bosnian troika have begun talks on forming a partnership with Serb opposition parties in RS.
“Integration into Western structures must be accelerated to keep up with the pace of neighbouring countries,” the HDZ BiH said.
The party’s vice president, Darijana Filipovic, said there is a willingness among partners to stop the practice of outvoting Croats in BiH. “We have received a very clear assurance that there is understanding and readiness to resolve this issue,” she told reporters.
Nebojsa Vukanovic, leader of the For Order and Justice party, who met with an HDZ BiH delegation over the weekend as part of the Serb opposition, also criticised the practice of outvoting Croats. “It sends a bad message when Bosniaks elect the Croat member of the state Presidency. That needs to change to ease tensions.”
