The High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HJPC BiH) has appointed Hrvoje Cabrajic as the Deputy Chief FBiH Prosecutor of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) entity. He will head the Special Department for Combating Corruption, Organized Crime, and Intercantonal Crime.
Cabrajic, a native of Vares, graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Sarajevo in 2007 and passed the bar exam in 2012. In 2016, the HJPC BiH appointed him as a prosecutor at the Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office in Sarajevo. He was selected for this pivotal role from a pool of candidates that included Pavo Rados and Samir Selimovic.
The Law on Combating Corruption and Organized Crime in the FBiH was adopted ten years ago, outlining the establishment of the Special Department within the FBiH Prosecutor’s Office. However, its implementation has faced numerous challenges, including disagreements over the department’s location and operational structure.
The current FBiH government identified the establishment of this department as one of its top priorities. A recent decision confirmed that the department would be headquartered in the former Privredna Bank building in central Sarajevo.
Cabrajic’s appointment is seen as a significant step in bolstering judicial capacities to combat corruption and organized crime, which remain among the most pressing issues in Bosnia and Herzegovina's justice system.
The government and judicial institutions hope that the new department will deliver substantial results in prosecuting complex cases, enhancing transparency and justice in society.
