Israeli Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Galit Peleg on Tuesday criticised the statement by the country's Presidency Chairman Zeljko Komsic in which he criticised BiH prime minister Borjana Kristo's blanket statement in support of Israel and condemnation of Hamas' attack on that Middle Eastern country. The ambassador responded to Komsic's interview with the BHT 1 public broadcaster on Monday in which he criticised Prime Minisiter Borjana Krišto for being “careless and selfish” in her unequivocal support to the State of Israel after Hamas’ attacks.

Komsic said that Krišto, “carelessly and selfishly published a message on social networks, disregarding the suffering of the Palestinian people.”

Peleg said in her press release that Kristo did not choose the side of Israel, but the side of human beings, asking Komsic what he stands for and what values he represents.

She recalled that innocent civilians, women, children and the elderly, as well as hundreds of young people attending a concert, were killed in the Hamas attacks.

As an example, she said that a six-month-old baby, a three-year-old child and two 85-year-old grandmothers were taken as hostages to Gaza, and small children were locked in cages.

“Mr Komsic believes that everything should be ‘observed in context’. In what context, Mr Komsic? In the context of ISIS? Auschwitz? What context gives legitimacy to the torture of young children? To kidnap grandmothers? To kill babies in their beds?” Peleg asked.

In response to Komsic's claim that reactions from Bosnia and Herzegovina to the events in the Middle East were used for internal political showdowns, the ambassador said she did not intend to deal with that, but wanted the facts to be respected.

“In this barbaric attack by Hamas savages, the victims were people, and the perpetrators were nowhere near people. On which side of history will you be remembered, Mr Komsic?” the Israeli ambassador asked.
