Polling stations are closed across Bosnia and Herzegovina. Citizens had the opportunity to elect their mayors and local assemblies. The local elections come two days after devastating floods killed at least 20 people and caused massive destruction in large parts of the country. The vote was postponed in some of the areas that were the most severely affected.
The Central Election Commission (CIK) said at a press conference that voter turnout by 3 PM had reached 34.98%. For comparison, turnout at the same point during the previous election cycle was 35%.
CIK President Irena Hadziabdic shared updates from polling stations, expressing gratitude to police agencies for regularly providing information.
“We have received 142 reports of election silence violations. As for other incidents, CIK assesses this as a fairly typical election day. We have received 39 complaints of irregularities, mostly involving interruptions due to verbal or physical altercations and issues with observers at certain polling stations. In some places, there were larger crowds, which indicates strong voter engagement. We have also encountered issues with fingerprint scanning, especially among older voters,” she said.
