N1, TV Nova, and the organization Pomozi.ba held a live broadcast of the humanitarian event "For Our People" to support those affected by the floods in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Over 100 public figures from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region took calls from viewers, with each call serving as a direct donation to Pomozi.ba.
“We gathered around a shared idea—humanity in action. Bosnians and Herzegovinians have shown empathy and solidarity countless times, not just when tragedies happen in our country. The images from Jablanica, Fojnica, Kiseljak, Kreševo, and Konjic are harrowing, and despite the help that has come from all sides, there is no doubt that the people in these areas will need support for a long time to rebuild their homes and regain what they lost. We want them to know they are not alone—Bosnia and Herzegovina stands with them,” said representatives from N1 and TV Nova.
Numerous celebrities from cultural, social, and public life across the region, including intellectuals, athletes, businesspeople, and media representatives, joined the initiative.
One such participant was Amel Tuka, a renowned Bosnian athlete, who reflected on the situation: “This reminds me of 2014 when we went through something similar in my region, ZDK. Back then, as a student, I helped with the cleanup. It was a huge disaster, but the loss of lives is what affects me the most. Material things can be replaced—we are here for that tonight—but human lives, those cannot be replaced. I just received a call from a man in Bihać who was crying. This is what Bosnia has—this compassion and unity, and we need to preserve it.”
Music star Dino Merlin also joined the effort, expressing gratitude for the initiative: “This is a natural disaster. Thank you for organizing this, so we can push a little harder to help. People have been calling in from all parts of Bosnia. These are difficult times, as Ivo Andrić would say, ‘a great deluge,’ when disasters like this happen. The least we can do is provide help, extend a hand of comfort and hope, and, of course, offer essential supplies like food and water to those in need.”
Sergej Barbarez, head coach of the Bosnian national football team, also participated, emphasizing the importance of solidarity over sports: “This shows there are more important things than football. It is our duty and desire to support such causes. We joined in the midst of our training sessions without a moment of hesitation. We were just waiting for the time, and we were happy to come,” Barbarez said.
He also sent a message to those in the affected areas: “Words feel inadequate. If I can say anything, it’s that I empathize deeply with those affected. We haven’t experienced this ourselves, but today I promised that we will do our best on Friday to contribute in any way we can to bring some relief. It’s not a time for smiles or joy, but we want to do our part and show that we are thinking of the people.”
Pomozi.ba has activated a charity number, 17039, through which residents of Bosnia and Herzegovina can donate 2 BAM to those affected by the floods. During the charity broadcast, viewers could use the same number to donate or speak with the guests in the studio. The number is available across all telecom providers in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
