The Srebrenica Memorial Center today hosted Brigadier General Matthew Valas, NATO Headquarters Sarajevo Commander, who began his visit at the Potocari cemetery, where he laid a wreath and paid respects to the genocide victims.
During his tour of the Memorial Center's exhibits, General Valas had the opportunity to learn about the historical facts and memories of the innocent victims’ suffering. His visit signifies strong support and solidarity with the victims’ families and all those working to preserve the memory of the genocide, according to a statement from the Memorial Center.
Following the tour, General Valas met with the Memorial Center's director, Emir Suljagic. They discussed the current operating conditions of the Memorial Center, as well as the challenges faced in preserving and presenting historical materials and educating visitors.
Director Suljagic expressed gratitude for the visit and emphasized the importance of support from international institutions and organizations in the ongoing efforts to preserve the memory of the genocide victims.
The Srebrenica Memorial Center remains dedicated to its mission of preserving the memory of the genocide victims and contributing to peace and tolerance through educational programs, the statement added.
