The newly appointed European Union Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Luigi Soreca, handed over copies of letters of credence to the head of the Department for Diplomatic Protocol of the BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mirsad Besic.

The European Council appointed Luigi Soreca to the position of Head of the Delegation of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina in July of this year. Soreca took over this position from Johann Sattler.

Since the spring of 2022, Soreca served as the EU's special envoy for the external dimension of migration and worked at the European External Action Service in Brussels. Previously, he was the head of the EU Delegation in Albania from 2018 to 2022.

In the statement published after his election, it was stated that his mandate will be to ensure continuous progress in the Stabilization and Association Process, “with the aim of a stable, sustainable, peaceful and multi-ethnic and united BiH, which will cooperate peacefully with its neighbours on path to EU membership” and that he will also support the implementation of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in BiH.

Last week, Sattler said goodbye to the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina in an emotional video and said: “Bosnia and Herzegovina will forever be in my heart.”
