A Holy Liturgy was also held in the morning at the Cathedral Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The liturgy was led by Metropolitan Hrizostom of Dabar-Bosnia.
The abbot of the Zitomislic Monastery, Archimandrite Danilo Pavlovic, told N1 that Christmas is a foundational event for all Christians, and symbols such as the Christmas liturgy, the Yule log (badnjak), the ceremonial bread (cesnica), and sprouted wheat carry a deep message about the life of Jesus Christ, who is the foundation of all things and brings people together in love and unity.

“Christmas is a call to gather and renew the values that connect us—love, forgiveness, and hope,” Pavlovic said.
