The news that police officers from Serbia are coming to Bosnia and Herzegovina has sparked outrage among some political parties in the country. However, according to the Interior Minister of BiH’s Federation (FBiH) entity, Ramo Isak, the arrival of the police officers is based on the law and a previous agreement between regional countries.
The Party of Democratic Action (SDA) and the Democratic Front (DF) have strongly criticized the fact that Serbian police officers will be stationed in Banja Luka, Foca and Trebinje between July 22 and September 1.
“The stationing of members of the Interior Ministry of Serbia on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a continuation of the aggressive policy of (Aleksandar) Vucic’s regime, the aim of which is to threaten the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country”, the SDA stated.
Isak said that the issue is being politicised and called on politicians to “stop scaring the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina”.
“We all know very well that this agreement exists, that the police from the FBiH went to neighbouring countries. Recently, police from Sarajevo worked in Croatia. So all of this is in accordance with the law and this is all being done legally,” he said.
He argued that the problem is that those who signed these agreements are now raising tensions.
“I don't think this is a good move for them because they also scare their families, who live in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in this way. Citizens are safe, no one can do anything on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina without the consent of the authorities,” Isak told N1.
