In the Serb returnee village of Bacevici, south of Mostar, offensive symbols such as swastikas, the letter "U," and "HVO" markings appeared this morning, causing distress among the residents. According to the villagers, the area has been subjected to violence and threats for several days, with authorities failing to take appropriate action.

Dusan Golo, president of the Coordination of Serbs in Mostar and a resident of Bacevici, stated that the villagers, especially children, have been harassed for three days. The troubles began four nights ago when gunfire was heard in the village.

“There was a burst of gunfire; someone drove through the village and fired several shots. We didn't inform the police at that time, but after that, the harassment of our children on the playground began, and last night the situation escalated,” Golo said.

He explained that swastikas, the letter “U” (for Ustasha – Croatian Nazi collaborators) and football fan group symbols of “Ultras” and “HVO” appeared on the village playground where children usually gather.

“Last night, a group of young men attacked the children on the playground, accusing them of removing those stickers. One boy spoke up, and they hit him. My grandson called his father, my son-in-law, who came to the scene and found the young men harassing the children. When he tried to chase them away, they threatened to return with older men and kill everyone in Bacevici,” Golo recounted.

He added that the young men arrived in two cars, whose license plates were recorded, and the police were informed of the incident.

Ljudevit Maric, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, confirmed to N1 that the police received a report about offensive posters in the village of Bacevici but did not receive a report about violence.
