The Sarajevo Canton delegation, led by Assembly Speaker Elvedin Okeric, including Deputy Speaker Vibor Handzic and Representative Igor Stojanovic, paid tribute to the fallen civilians at the site of Kazani, located on the slopes of Trebevic above Sarajevo.

During 1992 and 1993, soldiers who refused to place themselves under the command of the General Staff of the then Republic of BiH Army brought and killed civilians who were then thrown into a pit. For this war crime in 1996, 14 former soldiers of the RBiH Army were sentenced to sentences ranging from 10 months to six years in prison.

On the initiative of the Mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karic, last year a memorial to the murdered civilians was unveiled with the names of 17 martyred Sarajevans, mostly of Serbian ethnicity.

“Forever, with sadness and respect, we will remember our murdered fellow citizens,” the text is engraved on the memorial.

In addition to the delegation, representatives of other levels of government and associations also attended the commemoration.
