As part of the 102nd traditional event "Santic's Poetry Night," Ana Brnabic, the Prime Minister of Serbia, visited the Zitomislici monastery and its museum and looked at the permanent exhibition of the Museum - artefacts from the 14th to the 19th century, which, as she said, "testify to the culture and spirituality in this area."

“I am glad I visited the Zitomislici monastery and the Zitomislici museum, which contains valuable artefacts from the period from the 14th to the 19th century, testifying to the culture and spirituality in this area. The museum houses works by various icon painters and artists testifying to the international experience of this community. It is very important that the monastery and the museum Foundation work on intercultural and interreligious dialogue,” said Brnabic.

Danilo Pavlovic, abbot of the Zitomislici monastery, said that Brnabic’s visit was very important in terms of the support of the Government of the Republic of Serbia to the work of the monastery and the Zitomislici museum Foundation.

Abbot Pavlovic added that Mostar is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, so the visitors of the museum and the monastery are people of different nationalities and religions.

Dejan Dilberovic, director of the museum Zitomislic Foundation, emphasized that it is a privilege and an honour for the Prime Minister of a regional power to come and visit this museum and stress importance to culture.

“During the visit, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic looked at the display of artefacts from the 14th to the 19th century, among which the most famous Zitomislic doors that were made of wood and covered with gold, manuscripts, books, icons, church materials, pieces of official clothing from that period and everything the monastic community has been collecting for centuries,” Dilberovic emphasized.

The Zitomislici museum was founded within the monastery complex in 1858 by building a new residence and founding a school. Next to the museum was a library and a gallery, which testifies to its cultural and educational activities through the centuries. The museum was visited by tourists, but also by famous travel writers, thanks to whom today there is information about the appearance and content of works of art and the museum from that period.

The Zitomislici museum was renovated in 2019, and in addition to the permanent exhibition of artefacts from the 14th to the 19th century, many other cultural events are organized in it. The Commission for National Monuments of BiH declared the entire complex of the monastery with the museum a National Monument.
