Serbia’s Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said Monday that he will be in East Sarajevo with some ministers at the January 9 event marking the Republika Srpska Day and that his visit is not directed against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Serbia’s Assembly Speaker Vladimir Orlić and (Minister of Defence Milos) Vucevic were in Banja Luka yesterday, and today I will be in East Sarajevo with some ministers. God willing, I will meet with (RS President Milorad) Dodik. Our activity is aimed at the national and state interest,” Dacic told TV Happy.
He rejected accusations that by going to East Sarajevo he was destroying the territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“I don't know why it would be directed against Bosnia and Herzegovina. To be clear, Republika Srpska is not only a creation of our people. It is also a Dayton creation, a Constitutional creation. This was not invented by Republika Srpska, nor by anyone in Belgrade, Banja Luka or Pale,” said Dacic.
He added that “it was the only way for BiH to survive as a state based on three equal peoples and two entities”.
Laying of wreaths
With the commemoration of the fallen soldiers of the RS Army at the “Mali zeitinlik” military cemetery in Sokolac, where about 1,000 of them were buried, the commemoration of January 9 – the Day of the Republika Srpska, which was declared unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, began Monday.
Wreaths were laid by the RS President Milorad Dodik, the representative of the BiH Presidency Bosko Tomic, the RS parliament Speaker Nenad Stevandic, RS Ministers Sinisa Karan and Savo Minic, and the Serbian Delegation led by Dacic and ministers in the Government of Serbia Nikola Selakovic and Danica Grujicic.
The central event consisting of a ceremonial military-style parade will be held Monday in East Sarajevo.
The BiH Constitutional Court contested January 9 as the Day of the RS and declared the celebration of that date unconstitutional.
