Easter is an invitation to live the holiday, not as a new reason for the explosion of hedonism, but as a journey, experientially, through the period of God's suffering "for the sake of people, but also for the Resurrection of the Son of God for us, his brothers, the people". This is a bit counterintuitive for today's culture, which is a culture of enjoyment. But there is no Christianity outside the Cross and the Resurrection - said the archpriest-Stavrophore Dr Darko Djogo, associate professor at the Orthodox Theological Faculty "St. Vasilije Ostroški" in Foca.

Orthodox faithful in Bosnia and Herzegovina and around the world are celebrating the greatest holiday of Easter this Sunday – the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the victory of life over death. It is believed that Jesus Christ was resurrected on the third day after his death. That is why believers greet each other with the words “Christ is risen – He is truly risen.”

Speaking to Fena news agency, Professor Djogo explains that people often make mistakes when it comes to Easter: Orthodox and Western Christians do not celebrate Easter at the same time, not because of differences in calendars, but because of differences in the way Easter is calculated.

“But the message is the same. It is what constitutes the essence of the Christian faith: ‘it was really not possible for death to keep the one who has the power over death, that is, He who is Life, Christ, the Son of God.’ People often make mistakes when they say that Christianity is, first of all, a religious system – the Church is first of all the experience of Life and that experience of Life is the experience of Easter, the experience of the victory of Life over death, the experience of victory of Good and Sacrifice over Evil and violence,” he explained.

Although Easter, as well as other holidays, are characterized by customs: Easter eggs, a rich banquet and other customs from place to place in BiH, for Professor Djoga, the meaning of the holiday is in the love we dedicate to other people.
