This morning, teachers from primary and secondary schools in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNK) launched a general strike following unsuccessful negotiations with the government. Demonstrators took to the streets of Mostar, carrying banners that read: "Return our dignity," "Stop the humiliation," and "We are worth more."

Josip Milic, president of the Coordination of Budget Users’ Unions in HNK, stated that the government offered a 5% salary increase starting in October 2024, which was rejected by the unions. Teachers are demanding a 15% increase, with Milic emphasizing, “We are not begging for charity; we are asking for what we are owed.”

Union leaders expressed frustration, with Edina Comic, president of the Union of Secondary and Higher Education in HNK, stating that they felt insulted by the government's offer and its subsequent statement blaming teachers for the potential disruption of the school year.
