The Director of the Central Harmonisation Unit at the Ministry of Finance and Treasury of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vladimir Stanimirovic (38), has been taken into custody on suspicion of committing the criminal offence of endangering one’s safety, specifically concerning threats made against Bosnia’s Security Minister Nenas Nesic, the BiH Prosecutor's Office said on Thursday.
The statement notes that, following his handover to the Prosecutor's Office and subsequent questioning, the on-duty prosecutor will take further legal actions.
However, in a statement to “Nezavisne novine,” Nenad Nesic said that he had met Stanimirovic only once in his life and was unaware of any threats made against him. He declined to comment further.
A source for this media outlet claims that the case likely dates back to just over a month ago. Specifically, at the beginning of July, a threatening letter was sent to Nesic’s office.
“You and that Vulic woman pretending to be from Sarajevo will soon meet Allah’s judgement. It’s useless dragging around bodyguards and armoured cars—no one has escaped the knife and slaughter,” reads the threatening message that Nesic posted on his Instagram profile.
Interestingly, at the time, MP Sanja Vulic also responded, stating, “This is what political Sarajevo’s activities look like when they try to deprive an elected representative of Republika Srpska of their freedom of speech and action because they are bothered by the truth being spoken.”
The Prosecutor's Office of BiH stated that, after Stanimirovic is handed over to the prosecutor and questioned as a suspect, the prosecutor will take further legal measures in accordance with the law.
“Acting on the orders of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) officers arrested Vladimir Stanimirovic on suspicion of committing the criminal offence of endangering one’s safety under Article 150, Paragraph 1, in connection with Paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code of Republika Srpska, due to threats made against the Minister of Security of BiH,” the Prosecutor's Office of BiH stated.
According to the RS Criminal Code, this offence is punishable by both a fine and imprisonment.
