The United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina has expressed its deepest condolences to the communities affected by the catastrophic floods sweeping across the country. In a statement, the UN conveyed solidarity, particularly with those areas where lives have tragically been lost and where homes, infrastructure, and businesses have suffered significant damage.
“We urge all citizens to prioritize their safety and stay informed by following the guidance of local authorities and emergency services,” the UN said, emphasizing the importance of caution in these trying times.
The organization also commended the spirit of unity, noting the remarkable solidarity among communities as they come together to support one another. “We are inspired by the solidarity of communities,” the statement added.
The UN offered its thoughts to families who have lost loved ones or are missing due to the disaster. They affirmed their readiness to assist local authorities in ongoing efforts to provide aid and recovery for those affected by the devastating floods.
The Government of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton announced that the death of 16 people was confirmed in the flooded areas in Jablanica, but that a large number of people were reported missing in the Jablanica and Konjic areas. Among the victims is a baby, while doctors in Mostar are fighting for the mother's life.
Floods hit Kiseljak, Fojnica and Kresevo due to heavy rain during the night.
