Political leaders in Bosnia “have an obligation to accept and acknowledge the facts” about the Srebrenica genocide and “teach the truth to future generations,” said the United States Ambassador in BiH, Michael Murphy, who joined the 2022 Peace March. Pročitaj više

“I am deeply honoured to be here and to honour the journey the survivors took. And of course to honour the victims of the genocide that took place here in 1995. It is a tribute to the marchers, that they have taken their pain, their loss, their suffering, and turned it towards something peaceful,” Murphy said.

He said the Peace March sends “a message of hope and tolerance, which is what the country needs and requires to move forward in the future all the people in this country want and deserve.”

“For our part, the US, our presence here today signals our commitment to the people of Srebrenica, to the survivors, to the victims, to their memory and to building a better, peaceful, prosperous future for all the people in BiH,” he said.

Murphy stressed that all the people of BiH, particularly the political leaders, “have an obligation to accept and acknowledge the facts of Srebrenica.”
“They were proven beyond a shadow of a doubt by two international courts, and of course, they are backed up by forensic evidence,” he stressed.

Murphy added that BiH’s citizens and political leaders have other obligations as well – “to teach the truth to future generations about what happened here, to honour the victims, including through memorialisation, to continue to work to locate the missing and to prosecute those who are guilty of this heinous crime.”
