The mural of convicted World War II war criminal Draza Mihailovic in the east-Bosnian town of Foca was hit with black paint, Gorazdeonline.com web portal reported Monday, adding that city officials refrain from any comment on this topic, with the remark that it was most likely done by an individual, and not by the "system".

From the moment when the mural was painted in 2019 on a building located near the infamous Partizan sports hall where innocent victims, mostly women and girls of Bosniak nationality, were raped and killed, it was requested to be removed, however, this never happened, Gorazdeonline.com reported.

Although the authorities were warned that the mural represents a provocation to all victims of Bosnian war events from 1992-1995 and the returnees to Foca and that it also sends a chilling message associated with the darkest times in this city, it did not bear fruit.

The Mihailovic mural has not been removed, and several buildings in Foca bear murals of other Serbian dukes from the First World War and earlier wars such as Dragutin Matic, Stepan Stepa Stepanovic and Petar Bojovic. These murals found on several buildings in the city centre were said to be painted by a group of youths from this city, with the consent of the tenants.
