The Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of the University of Sarajevo presented on Wednesday the results of the scientific and research project "Face of Medieval Bosnia" - a 3D face reconstruction based on genetic information from archaeological samples. The public has the opportunity to see what the face of a medieval man looks like.
One of the results of the 3D face project was presented Wednesday. The focus of the research was the appearance of a common man and his life.
The research began in 2021 and was supported by the Ministry of Science and Youth of the Sarajevo Canton (KS). Excavations were carried out in 2015, and genetic analysis determined that the person was male, 35 to 40 years old.
As said, all analyses are based on genetic variants that determine physical traits. Thus the reconstruction shows that the person is male, and has light blue eyes, brown hair and fair skin. The reconstruction is based on facts.
The person dates back to the 14th century.
The reconstruction was managed by a group of scientists from the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of the University of Sarajevo based on genetic information from archaeological samples. This reconstruction will be available to the public in Jajce, where the excavations took place, and in the National Museum in Sarajevo.
