Foreign Minister Marija Pejcinovic-Buric met with the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Miroslav Lajcak, in New York on Monday to discuss a variety of topics, including the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Pejcinovic-Buric and Lajcak, who served as the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2007 to 2009, agreed that the international community should step up its efforts to bring stability to Bosnia, which includes upholding the country's principle of three constituent peoples.
They also discussed strengthening the role of UN in the area of peacebuilding and peacekeeping, news agency Hina reported.
The meeting was on the margins of a Security Council discussion titled Youth, Peace and Security. The discussion was organised by Peru, which holds the rotating Security Council presidency in April, and the topic was implementing a 2015 resolution which recognises the importance of youths in maintaining and promoting peace and security, especially in terms of conflict prevention and resolution.
In her speech, Pejcinovic-Buric said that young people make up a significant proportion of the world's population, and that world's peace and security are very much dependent on securing their well-being and the protection of their rights.
