Serbia can accept a compromise on Kosovo but not humiliation, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said after a meeting with European Council President Donald Tusk on Wednesday.

“We can accept every compromise but we can’t accept humiliation for Serbia,” Vucic told a news conference after the meeting.

“I showed Donald Tusk the Brussels Agreement and told him what Serbia has done. I said that Serbia has to reach a compromise solution. We have to fight so that our children won’t have the same problem we have today,” Vucic said.

The President said they discussed the Nis-Pristina highway which he said is important for the entire region because it will bring together Serbs and Albanians and help promote business.

Speaking in Serbian, Tusk said the European Union is the most reliable partner for Serbia and the Western Balkans. “We will confirm our readiness to work on the region’s European prospects in Sofia,” Tusk said.

“Serbia will finds its place as an integral part of a united Europe. It’s clear that Moscow and Washington will not decide the future of Serbia, nor will Ankara and Brussels. Only Belgrade will decide,” he said.

Tusk said the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue is a difficult and very emotional issue “but it is a strategic choice which will pay off in the end”.
